Welcome to the forum.

From the comments so far, you're looking at an extraordinarily expensive project. The deck removal, whether you choose to replace the teak or just close up the holes and add a nonskid composite surface of some kind, plus sanding and repainting the boat with two-pack, add up to tens of thousands of dollars (USD; 1 AUD=0.657947 USD as of today).

Judging from the photos, the repairs to the collision damage will probably still be expensive but will cost less. It doesn't matter whether the damage is structural. What does matter is whether the portlights will have to be replaced and whether some of the interior cabinetry (and how much) has to be removed in the course of the repair.

If you're looking for a bargain, this probably isn't it. There are plenty of similar boats for sale for around USD $200,000 around here that do not need a major refit like that. Keep in mind that it is easy to spend USD $25,000 or more on a boat that size and age on relatively routine maintenance items (like bottom paint, sails, standing rigging, running rigging, plumbing, tankage, and batteries) even if there isn't anything really wrong with it.

Re: Damage to hull from an impact

Yeah thanks all. Helpful stuff. The asking price is AUS$230,000 so seemed reasonable until I saw the damage and the condition of the teak deck. Wanted to learn about the hull damage and hear the opinions

I'd echo all the responses but also if it were me, the first place I'd be looking is on the inside to see what has happened to bulkheads and cabinetry. It looks like it was thrown against a piling.
