A Coastal Cruising Boat in my opinion is not catagorised by the Mark, Designer or Build quality but by the person who owns it....
I've known some one with a Cabo Rico who would not leave the ICW....
I've also known someone who sailed a Westerly Nomad 22 in the Jester Challenge..
A Tiki 21.... marineply/epoxy/glass Cat tied together with bits of string has sailed UK to New Zealand.... see Kali in my Photo's.
You have Blue Water sailors and Coastal sailors... boats go anywhere...

True.... but if memory serves me well that relates to safety/navigation/communication equipment your required to carry to licence your vessel... here in Portugal there are 3 classes... each requiring more equipment than the last to comply.
I remember sailing my Tiki 21 into Cherbourg from Poole, I was boarded by the marine police who were amazed I only sailed with compass, charts and h/h VHF.... could not believe UK was so Free of Regulation....
