pirate Delivery Knockbacks...

So anyway.. I got this e-mail from some guy called Chris Stanmore-Major asking for a quote to deliver 2 Volvo 60's from Cal to Panama.. gave Atoll a shout for 2nd Skipper and he was up for it so sent off a quote..
He comes back with 'What assurances can you give that your other skipper and your crews can handle a boat with full running backstays..'
Nearly recounted my experience of popping a running backstay on Azzurra 2 an ex America's Cup 12metre last November in the Baltic.. no loss of mast.. just myself and a 4ft 11 Portuguese lady as crew.. but figured the World is to small for 2 arrogant ******** so politely told him to go away..
Sorry Atoll.. your name did not impress him either..

pirate Re: Delivery Knockbacks...

Forgot to say.. when he responded to my quote it was with a 'Google Search my name so you know who your talking to...'
If my web site is not sufficient information for him to judge whether I'm a viable Skipper for the job.. why bother.. or is it good for his ego to try and put folk down..

You are losing your edge methinks.
Surely an hypenated surname should have been enough to prime the BS detector.

Yep, I agree, you dodged a bullet.

I've worked for that type of owner. They think because they were born in the back seat of a Rolls Royce with a 6+ figure trust fund, that some how makes them competent seamen. Run! He'd likely micro manage the entire trip- badly, from his couch a thousand miles away.

Re: Delivery Knockbacks...

Hell boatman you should have given him my name as a second, that would have really impressed him, NOT. Sorry you got the bum's rush on the run. Anyway I'm too busy getting my boat ready for sea right now, since I retired from the regular boat business, I have been busier than before, working on my own crap. I don't know how I had time for a regular job.

Sounds like he has a few connections, wouldn't think he would have trouble finding crew.

That's what I thought, me too!

That would have been a fun race delivering the two boats, but probably not worth the hassle that went with it.
