Did Heather Neill ever finish circumnavigation ?

Hey, I came across a link to a woman named Heather Neill who set out to circumnavigate in 2007 aboard a Flicka 20.

Does anyone know if she ever finished ?

I've been looking but I have not come across a definitive answer. I found a link to her "website" but it was no longer there it seems.

Anyone know ?

It is on Sailnet. Search. I cannot post a link. Turned around very early. Incomplete preparation. "Best way to go".

Right, I remember the part about her locking herself out of the cabin. Still don't understand how that's possible, but whatever. Thanks !

No--she injured her hand and was incapacitated. It was too much of a risk then for a single handed ocean crossing so she sold "Flight of Years" and went back to being a realtor as far as I know--I was in touch, but have not heard from her for years. I believe her father was not in good health either and that may also have been a factor in her decision.

I hope she resumed her dream--but in a larger vessel. Twenty feet just does not carry enough stores for such a long journey. One needs at least another three feet and preferably another TEN.

This one takes the WTF award for the week. Obviously, this was much more about the publicity than the challenge. I'm wondering if she had the foggiest clue what she was doing. While I have locked myself out of my car, locking oneself out of their boat is a rare gift indeed

...this confirms my strong opinion that one can only COME BACK from a circumnavigation, not set out on one...

That is a good way to think of it. I am sure there are countless people who set out to sail around the world and for countless reasons those plans did come full circle. Har-Har !

What caught my attention in the first place on this one was the fact that she was doing it in a Flicka 20, which has been one of my favorite little boats since I first started sailing. I know many people think she is too small, but I would be willing to give it a go. That being said, if anyone wants to finance said journey, and supply a suitable Flicka, I'm almost ready to go.....!
