Is what it is.
AC has always had that snooty Biff and Buffy feel to it and I really never watched until I saw some of the Oracle trial stuff. Still thought the people were snooty but it was fun watching the carnage.
Agree there, personally the big Formula 60's like Florence Arthaud sailed in the Med blew me away, yep the carnage was incredible, the rule created the fastest dinosaur around the course won the crappy trophy.

The best moment other than the sinking was when Bondy's guys measured the bolt holding the cup down so they could bring the appropriate spanner was the height of gamemanship!!!!!!!

Re: Did The America's Cup Make a Mistake Shifting to Multi-Hulls?

Well America's cup was always about virtually unlimited racing. It never was about who was the better sailer, it was always about who had the better boat.

I would say leave it open. If it takes a billion dollars to compete, so be it. I never plan on entering a boat.
From the beginning "edging" the race rules is what kept the trophy, (usually outlawed the next year, but it made for some interest to see what the racers would try next). An unlimited race isn't a race if a faster boat is disqualified out of "fairness".

And I would prefer to see an ungodly contraption win the race, than see a bunch of old wooden monohulls with clipper sails slowly creeping across the course.

If that's what YOU want to see,... organise a race.
