DIY boatyard outer banks?

Thinking about buying a catamaran sailboat near the outer banks of North Carolina. Boat will need a decent amount of work (interior refit, not bottom or glass work).

The yard it is currently at will allow this, but said I CANNOT “live aboard” while doing the work. That is kind of a deal-breaker for me, as I don’t want to incur the expense and hassle of trying to find temporary housing for the periods of time I would be working on it.

So.

Anyone out there know of a DIY yard within a few hundred miles, north or south, of the NC outer banks? Boat is 16’ beam by 36’ length.

Thank you….

First try Bock Marine http://www.bockmarine.com/

70 ton lift. We lived aboard there. They have a very nice club house with toilet and shower. They have an on premise chanderly and will help you with industrial orders. Good and honest people with decent rates.

You might try the 2 yards in Bellhaven. Don’t know if they can handle your beam.

There was a cat builder in Wanchese on Roanoak Island.

Re: DIY boatyard outer banks?

Consider living in your car while you work on the boat. You can leave the tools on the boat. It really is very inconvenient to live on a boat and work on it full time. It is the having to clean up from work to fix supper, and clean up from that to be ready to start work in the morning. And that's the minimum. If you feed 3 times a day, it adds to cleanups, and takes up time. Your choice, of course.
