Drifters

The NOAA site has pages devoted to tracking little drifter boats designed by gradeschoolers, and set afloat from the U.S. coast. I guess this link gives us some ideas about where we'd end up without a rudder!

Educational Passages Boats Launched late 2012

So ... thanks kids!

Re: Drifters

Cool project! Wouldn't it suck if you ended up circling in a gyre for a year like that one boat? I wouldn't have thought it possible to stay stuck for that long a time.

That'd be tough, yes. Sorta like the Marshall Is. saga - Atlantic style

Re: Drifters

I think sat/gps tracking of more drifters is a fantastic idea....

I do however think that there will be heavy concentrations under bridges in major cities... So it may not be that informative at all...

PS kids... fun link!

The one showing the red track line ended up in Guernsey channel islands, the mast and sail were gone ,and had aload of growth but still afloat, chap who found it is going to repair it ,then set it free again
