Re: Earthquake and Tsunami in Northeast Japan

I think we can assume that other than Japan the rest of the pacific rim has been spared from a major Tsunami this time thank the Lord.

Nothing to worry about here in San Diego. Maybe ~1 foot of surge coming in around 8:40am local time, and it's going to happen near low tide.

They downgraded it from a warning to advisory.

Re: Earthquake and Tsunami in Northeast Japan

I'm in La Jolla, CA.

Tsunami warning has been issued and is expected to hit the west coast of the USA around 8:30am, although they are only predicting a 3 foot surge.

Prayers to those in Japan.

Re: Earthquake and Tsunami in Northeast Japan

Our high tide was an hour ago. Since that time, the water dropped about 5 inches and just got stuck there.

Waiting....

Here's a link you might find useful for the West coast:

Re: Earthquake and Tsunami in Northeast Japan

We just passed the time when the Tsunami was first supposed to hit. Nothing here. We're at low tide, so that was supposed to help.

Not much here in Ensenada...
Three or four boats left the harbor about 6-7 AM
Rebel Heart made me feel more comfortable.

Was up all night watching this. So sad and so incredible. My heart goes out to the Japanese people.

I spoke too soon. We just had a huge surge go through. It was as if a river opened up in the middle of the harbor. A steel 100' classic yacht next to us heeled over so far that for a few moments it seemed in danger of capsize. Wild!

Now we're all waiting for the surge to reverse itself and head back out.

Saw on the TV that the same thing happened down in Santa Cruz. It appears that a few docks broke up, and the water swept away five or six boats, capsizing at least a few.

Would you be able to guestimate the water level difference in ft?
