Just got word from son-in-law of massive earthquakes and tsunami in n.e. Japan. He's in Tokyo and hotels badly shaken. Reportedly 8.8

Re: Earthquake and Tsunami in Northeast Japan

I'm making plans to head down to the Marina around midnight to take my boat out. Preliminary prediction is for a 2 meter wave here in Hawaii. 2 meters will definitely cause major problems for any boat left in the confines of a marina. Will get definitive information on the height of the wave at around 2330 when the wave passes Wake Island. Scheduled to hit Hawaii around 0300. Don't expect there will be much damage except to areas right on the water if the wave isn't any higher than currently projected.

Re: Earthquake and Tsunami in Northeast Japan

Just updated from CNN as the 5th largest earthquake ever recorded, now the whole west coast of the USA is under a tsunami warning. People in Hawaii have 4 hours, as of now they are saying the beach will rise 3+ feet possible 10 feet for HI.

Re: Earthquake and Tsunami in Northeast Japan

They're talking about a potential 3-5 foot surge on the West Coast. Should I be concerned about my boat which is docked in Marina del Rey? I'm in the fairway farthest from the breakwater.

For any of us who happen to have friends presently cruising in the pacific… it might be a good idea to try and give them a heads up.

Even 20 hours from now… a rogue wave generated from this Tsunami might hit someone who is in bad weather or anchored in a low atoll thousands of miles away.

Yes! it's I effect for 24 hours from now, not 3 hours ago when it hit. could be a rouge wave even 48 hours from now.

I would think that if you have seen the Tsunami hitting the east coast of Japan you will have a good idea of what to expect on the west coast of the USA. Mate I really hope it is not as bad but it does not look good to me.

Here is the warning forthe west coast USA

Re: Earthquake and Tsunami in Northeast Japan

I live in Japan and it is a mess on the Pacific side. The whole building shook for a good minute with at least 30 some big aftershocks since.

Hope everyone is safe.
