Erie locks help

Sailing single-handed Westsail 32 through Erie canal. Need either one or two crew to assist me going through the canal. Does anyone know where I could get this kind of help?

When are you going? Which end are you starting?

Is upstream still the only direction where they don’t allow single handing?

Re: Erie locks help

As far as I know, the Erie has no rules about single handing in either direction. Minimum crew is just whatever you need to be comfortable.

Are you going across to Oswego and then toward New York, or are you absolutely going in the Erie Canal specifically and going West? And of course, as everyone else has said - when?

You could try Kijiji. There are a couple of people looking to crew. Also are you at a marina or club? Talk to the people on your dock or post on the club's crewboard.

Re: Erie locks help

I don’t have any fixed date planned. It would be in July but at this point it’s uncertain as to when exactly that would be.

Re: Erie locks help

I'm likely available depending on more specifics.
I'm Cooperstown NY.

Re: Erie locks help

it's not particularly difficult, I've run the Erie several times singlehanded in 37 - 47' boats and seen many others do it. We're in the Oswego canal at the moment.

If you have not been in the system before you may find this of interest.
