I like the idea of getting through the GS quick and with power if needed. Any idea how many days worse case scenario to cross averaging 5 knots?

I won't have a wind vane as much as I'd like. Will have AIS B, auto helm, life raft, plan on new running rigging, new ocean mainsail, gib and geneoa, harness and jacklines, 200 watts solar, 200AH house battery, 2 start batteries, lots of water and spam. Actually no spam. I will maybe use a Garmin Inreach or something similar, and maybe get an EPIRB

Probably going to just be two of us.
Distance to Gulf Stream depends on where you leave from. If you go from Norfolk you should be through in two days. Leave with a decent forecast and you should be fine. With a 32 footer assuming 120 nm days may be on the optimistic side. Assume 100 a day, if you do more that is a bonus.

Comments on your prep.
  • new standing rigging is more important than new running
  • your new main should have three reef points
  • why two start batteries? Three house batteries and one start makes much mmore sense
  • you need two independent autohelms. You don't want to end up hand steering for days when the one you have croaks, which happens pretty. often
  • You can collect rainwater with a system as simple as a towel to direct water to a tank. Worrks surprisingly well.

Grenada wasn't a good place to be during Hurricane Beryl recently!
