Re: FREE, or close to free!

You're right on track not paying him. The yard will sell it cheap if/when he is past the final default, if not already. And as it will then be sold via a legal process your title would be clear(er), and the yard would probably practically give it away to either have it moved, or have a paying customer doing something towards repairing it. YMMV.

Maybe a talk with the state title office. Lost titles can be replaced in some states.
Here in Washington it's a simple thing to file for lost title or both parties can just walk into a licensing office and thebseller/ owner can sign an affidavit of release and new owner put it into his name .
Personally I would also do a title search to check for leins on the vessel .

But first I would be talking to the yard owner about the vessel. Sounds to me like he is about to lose it to them . make a deal with them to buy it direct after he defaults. Will be a lot cheaper that way.

What I found interesting is that he states that he came over from Germany just to deal with the boat and he still dont have time to deal with all of this...

Yeah, lots of things just don't add up. Also, even with a lien search as previously suggested, some liens may not show . . . It would really suck if you "bought" it, then three other people show up with liens, maybe from one of the marine parts stores there in the yard, for "supplies and parts" sold to the guy 9 years ago when it was first hauled, but bill never paid, a couple of the gypsy mechanics who may have done work on it, etc. And none of those would likely show up in a lien/title search. And the first thing the people with liens, legitimate, or not would do after you buy it would be to go to port and let them know that they have claims against the boat, and the port won't splash the boat after it is fixed until either all the liens have been satisfied, or proven in a court of law to have no merit . . . . lots of boats out there that are ready to sail away for not a huge amount of money, me thinks . ..

Great cause, I love the idea. Funny how he spelled the name of the Ukrainian president… Must have been thinking about another presidential story [emoji12][emoji12]

Grampian 26' (Southern NJ Craigslist) - Free

https://southjersey.craigslist.org/b...471684160.html

These are pretty bulletproof solidly built boats. No outboard on this one, but rig and it floats!

(Wonder what the interior looks like.)

A Cal 28 for $2000 in LA. Another one of Lapworth's boats that was ahead of its time and still a great design IMO.

Nice boats but are you sure it's not a theft/ knock off of the Columbia defender? The only difference is the deck is flat all the way back . The defender has a 4 inch rise behind the mast and back to give well over 6 ft of headroom in the salon .

Hope the buyer restores her to full glory
