Boat: Looking for my next boat!

Re: FREE, or close to free!

I wasn't sure if this should go in the "under $30k" thread, or here in the "close to free" thread...so I'm posting in both, just in case.

Albin Vega 27, fully and seriously rebuilt for a round the world cruise...for example, it seems that all below the waterline through hull holes have been removed/sealed. The boat apparently has also been reinforced structurally. Comes with a long list of equipment for offshore. This is a very interesting boat. Asking price is $5,000 USD, but they seem to be open to offers, looking for a quick sale.

FROM THE AD (translated by google):

Hey!

We are now selling our Albin Vega 27, which took us from Sweden to Grenada in the Caribbean (where the boat is now). The boat is fully equipped for sailing around the world and is ready for use. We are in some time pressure and wish this process to go fast.

The boat is rebuilt with inspiration and help from Sven Yrvind. The following are done from 2015 to today:

· Reinforced mast shot and beam
· Reinforced longitudinal buckle and other shots
· No bottom penetrations, ie no holes below the waterline.
· The hull between the hull and the tire is laminated and all of the through-screws in the tire are exchanged so that nothing leaks from above.
· Windows replaced with plastic mounted outside so that they can not be pushed in.
· The seat well is remodeled to a tire and the inboard engine has been removed.
· The original rudder is firmly laminated and has been replaced with two rudders on the transom.
· Front door reinforced with carbon fiber.
· Rig: Reinforced rig fixings / fittings and steel rod, new wire and screwdrivers (2015)
· Targabåge (not stainless steel, painted and rusted in some places)

Equipment

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Not even close to free, but I feel like the majority here will have an appreciation for this beauty! I did miss out on another amazing boat. A Rhodes Swiftsure. I'm ready to cry over this one. This is the third that I couldn't get there in time to see.

Some rather extreme modifications there in that one... now it's really a little RTW torpedo capsule.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Interesting thread! I've seen quite a few boats with hull damage from grounding the keel (resulting in some separation between keel & hull), deadhead & debris strikes, and, of course, hurricanes. All of these would require significant work & investment to get seaworthy again, but I wonder if a separated keel is immensely more complex & costly than a puncture or severe crack from a collision.

I guess anything is possible, but some people take that to the extreme:

WOW! Amazing! That sure wins the prize. And here I am complaining about a deck that needs paint and a hatch to rebuild!

If it is any shape to sail, I'll be really tempted... really tempted... I hope it's an usalvageable wreck! Or if not, that it go to a good home... by the way your 29 is looking better by the day, the new work looks good!

edit: I found it too, up in the delta near Rio Vista, on SF craigslist, no photos

Even if they aren't solid, they should certainly last until the next haul out when you can change the backing plates to something you pick. I'd bet they're solid wood with a veneer, which should be fine. You don't even have to buy the valves, just find your own scraps for backing plates and redo the work.

Coming from someone that loves free or close to free boats and looked at a few dozen, you're going to pull up some floorboards and see much scarier things than that found on that Hunter. You're, at some point, going to see some plain old gate valves from the plumbing section in the place of proper seacocks, cheap garden hose in place of proper hose below the waterline. You'll wonder how some these boats haven't sunk before you looked at them.

Yeah such beautiful boats to be sure. I cant believe there is another one for free, I have been talking to the guy who has her in the bay area. The marina will allow the new owner two month at the slip at 295.00 and then she needs to go. Hope someone get her and I wonder if its the dinette version.

Very true. Seen it with my own eyes already. I guess I'm more the "do it once" type. I wan't saying pass on the boat because of it. I used the wrong words. I was saying that everything up to that looked like they had done a great job!

From the ad:
1975 Sabre 28 for sale. Has Universal diesel inboard (not running), as well as, 9.8hp Tohatsu extra long shaft high thrust outboard (running) on transom bracket. Standing rigging is in good condition. Boat has minor cosmetic damage from hurricane Irma & could use thorough cleaning & some TLC. I'm asking $2000. Trades considered. Bitcoin & other cryptocurrencies accepted. Boat is located in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Price reduced. Must sell within 2 weeks due to sea wall construction. Lead in keel is worth more than price.

It would be nice to check the hull, keel and bolts out of the water if it had been bumped around in the hurricane... but for an ASKING price of $2000 I'd risk it! The engine is probably worth $1000, it looks fairly new.
