So when you get your Alberg, whatcha doin' with your Columbia? 8-)
hahahaha, not sure. I had thought about keeping both but perhaps that's excessive. If we did find a good deal on a nice Alberg 35, with the same layout as our Columbia we would likely sell the Columbia, put it on Air BnB as a little getaway or the least likely is leave her on the trailer till its just the two of us again.

In all honesty two boats is too much for us, at the rate we pour time and money into them. But they are so beautiful I cannot help myself.

nice boat (S&S!) for shallow water, and the Columbia too. No info on the engine though... that's the clincher.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

How do y'all think the Islander compares to the Tartan 27, just next door?

https://longisland.craigslist.org/bo...632015203.html

Say they were same price and in similarly good shape, and given my top priorities:

Seaworthy: structural integrity, *designed for* survivability in eventual/occasional blue water passage making, best possible safety for its occupants when the sea gets rough. Also safety around reefs (yes I know these will limit speed upwind)

Also sea-kindly, with the least tiring motion. Pretty sure these two mean heavy displacement, likely full keel, or at least designed so rudder & prop protected.

Liveaboard space & "comfort", headroom, storage capacity.

I saw this one.... thought I shared it! Very nice boat. I think the 27 is a centerboard.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

John I'm not one of those that is of the opinion that you can only do open water passages in certain boats. Those people have been proven wrong since man learned how to sail. I'm more of the needs and wants opinion. Check these guys out. King of Bongo departs to Canaries - Dinghy Adventures

I think for what you want you should be looking at a boat with a displacement to length ratio over 300, and a beam no less than 8.5 feet. every small sailboat is going to hobby horse some... even boats over 30 feet will depending on the seas but thats more of a comfort thing; whats your comfort level? I put together a needs/ wants list to help me search. Some of the needs can be addressed during a refit so they aren't all deal breakers. I visited a boat that had just finished an extensive refit where the owner had made things like water tight storage and chain locker on a Pearson Triton. Not that hard to do and a pretty damn good idea. He had upgraded all hatches to watertight, and all portlights. He now has a boat he's confidant can handle anything. Granted, he did start with an excellent boat!

Picked up one of these exact except mine had huge SS tiller. Beautiful boat and sailed well. Interior was really nicely done. Cabin sole was slab teak 3/4" thick. Could have started on that with a belt sander :-) Got it at marina auction for $1k. Turned it quick at $7500. Who says ya cant make money on boats? Almost kept it but needed money then... and now :-)

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Very interesting boat! They're asking $8950, which may be a good price, I don't know but comparatively it's not. Includes everything on board. Has full electronics! The sale does benefit a charity, so it's a feel good boat too

Yes you did. I just checked it out this morning. Nice guy, seems to really know his stuff.

He pointed out a soft area of the deck where it narrows along the side.

Engine started right up, he'd put in a lot of work on it, also rigging, new blocks sails in good shape.

Since I have no clue I was pushing him to hold a deposit conditional on a light survey, but he had other buyers coming tomorrow,

says getting a surveyor now would be tough and pricey,

really looking for cash in hand to buy a boat for his kids, fair enough at such a low price.

So I walked away, would have been a scramble to find a trailer, I really need that first.

Not sure if I'll be checking out that Bahama.

PS 8.5' is my max beam, the Tartan 24 pushes that by 2-3"

California 27 in Kingston Ontario Canada. I saw the boat on the hard at the inner harbour (metalcraft marine). Its been for sale for quite a while and the owner keeps lowering the price. I think it could be purchased for next to nothing.
