Re: FREE, or close to free!

Yes seems a good trailer is both harder to find and more expensive than the boat.

I was looking at aluminum to save in weight and for ramp launching, but $6-8K seems the going rate even second-hand, and that's before setting it up for a particular boat.

Maybe a trailers thread would be useful?

I would have to agree. A project boat is what I'm after....something to work on over the winter....but I want it at home for convenience and am not too cracked up about paying movers multiple times. It seems that there are some decent deals on 28-32' boats, but moving them is the killer.

I'm considering getting into the business.

Looking for an outfit to apprentice with.

Or suggestions for a more realistic plan for getting up to speed quickly.

John,
As far as I am concerned these are the best in New England.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Not my favorite builder, but this boat meets a few peoples requirements and is priced nicely.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

I love this thread. I see this as a potential rescue effort. Many of these boats are classics, forgotten and rotting away... waiting for someone to bring them back to life. I watched a YT channel where these guys are building a wooden boat from scratch. They chopped up 2 or 3 classic fiberglass boats merely for the keel lead! One of them was a Pearson Triton... sad to see a beautiful boat like that, hacked to pieces, merely for the lead. It's like killing an elephant for its tusks!

Great thread!

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Here in S. Florida there are many, many pre-derelict boats (so called by FWC) around Miami-Dade and the Keys. If you can contact the owner you may take a burden off their hands for free. I did it with a 30 footer, diesel worked and it was able to be sailed after a week. I transferred/gave it to friend who now cares for it. The very nice old sailor who gave up the vessel past on a few months later.

Nearly every boatyard and marina has abandoned boats they'd love to get off their property. At times, when the condition is so bad, they have to pay to have the boats disposed off. These boats can often be had for nothing or next to nothing.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

We've seen a couple of these come up for sale. All seem to sell around this kind of money, and storage is paid to next spring with launch on this. If it needs any work you don't have to worry about additional storage fees!
