Not worth it, but good for someone living in Toronto.

I'm not looking for an argument, but the ad says Evinrude 9.9 outboard engine. Since its under 10hp, no license or registration is required in Canada. That means no fees and no taxes. I've done this. When crossing the border I use the boat name and HIN...never had any trouble going in the USA from Canada many times.

Here's a clip from the ad:

****snip*****
- Roller furling Genoa
- Cruising Main
- Electric start Evinrude 9.9 Outboard
- Some (50%) standing rigging replaced Summer 2018.
- Hard dinghy included
- Cradle and two boat stands included.
-Brand new battery and one year old solar panel to charge in pristine condition.
****snip*****

And yes, you are correct...no head or galley. That just means the boat might go for even less than the advertised price. I would not be surprised if this boat becomes "FREE". Marina fees are usually due in June...that would be the time the owner will really want to sell, before he has to pay for another season.

That looks cool. I had no idea someone could take a boat down to the Gulf that way.
Not sure it could be done with a 9hp motor, some of the areas going up river need some power, but maybe a tug could help get through it.

30 foot wood schooner near Toronto, Canada. They pay you $500 to take it...? I think this is how Josh Slocum got started!

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-powerboat-mo...ationFlag=true

from the ad:

We are a storage facility and this unit was seized for non payment of storage. This 30' Wood Schooner sail boat is free and we will pay you $500.00 cash to take it. There is an old diesel motor and a mast inside. We do have heavy machinery to help with loading. Alternative option, is for you to cut it up in 3 parts and we can load the sections onto your trailer.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

That would be a great boat but Toronto is quite a ways from Port Aransas Texas. Thanks so much though for the info though. Have a Great day! ✌

A couple interesting boats

https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwi/b...838170302.html

The compac 19 is popular-2k w/trailer sounds right. Says “project boat” but looks pretty ok.

Pop top, small, but cheap and centrally located.

The compac 19 is popular-$2k w/trailer sounds right. Listing says “project boat” but looks pretty ok. Sails appear to have been used as a bed liner for a vegetable garden at some point.

Small but with a sharp interior, a small cockpit, folkboat stylings, shallow draft, and trailer, she’s got a different vibe than a lot of the boats on the thread. Steep at $4.1k but not way out there. Could likely be stored at home. Looks to have a lot of interior for a trailerable boat.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

This CS27 looks to be in pretty good shape. Being auctioned off by a third party who knows nothing about boats. Current bid is $625 cdn. Its just east of Toronto, Canada, on Lake Ontario. The CS27 is a good solid, canadian made boat usually equipped with a yanmar 12 hp engine. This one looks like tiller steering, furler, and an old stove. These boats have made the trip south from here...they use very little fuel. 6 days remain in the auction.

C&C27 mk3, 1976, located in Hamilton Ontario Canada, west end of Lake Ontario. These were well made boats that sail very well. A common boat around here. Fresh water means it's likely in better shape than you would expect. Atomic 4...will run forever.

Asking $2500 cdn....thats like $1000 USD. A short sail to US ports like Youngstown NY.

I've dealt with the guy before. I wouldn't say he knows nothing about boats, but I agree the ad and presentation is pretty brutal. He's a boat recycler and I have done some business with him before and wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again. In fact he's a good source for parts since he is more or less in the salvage business. He gave me an autopilot for free!

I can't figure out why he's auctioning it though, it may be a new approach for someone wanting to get rid of their boat but doesn't want to deal with it at all, put it up for auction and see what it fetches. Could be a steal for someone, not me, I only buy boats with trailers now :-)

Seriously? A little TLC??

That's the type of "free" boat that will break the bank in a hurry.

The dollars start flowing before it even leaves the yard as that trailer appears to need a total overhaul

And no title on top of everything else.....
