Re: FREE, or close to free!

ODay Tempest 23 in Barrie Ontario (north of Toronto). Looks like a great boat. I would "buy" it myself if I could figure out how to get it to Kingston.

From the ad:

To a good home - one of the best sailing little boats you’ll ever find! I got “two footitis” and bought a bigger boat. I would like the Tempest to go to somebody who can give it the TLC she deserves. She’s been sailed regularly the last few years and would like to be used this summer. Main, jib, spinnaker all in good condition. The cabin top has some soft spots and there a previous repair that isn’t holding up well so there are a few things that could give you something to do in self isolation I kept my outboard for the new boat so she’s Free to the first person that comes and gets her! She’s on her cradle in Barrie.

This boat if it in as good a condition as it appears is probably cheaper to "buy" than any free boat.

I/we have gone the "boat for short money" route many times, and although it has worked out for us, you either need alot of patience to see your way through a long restoration, or be able to live with a bunch of shortcomings while you "fix while you sail".
We sold our last cheap boat recently and are perusing the market for the next one. But this time we are finding that we do not have the tolerance for things that need work.
We'll leave the projects to someone younger and with more time on their hands.

There's a good one for daysailing and gunkholing, with a tarp over the boom!

Ah the memories! Great little boat! And it has a vertical engine hoist in the lazarette? Interesting.

Good thing it's in "excellent" condition. New owner shouldn't have to do anything...

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Yeah, well, it's free. Whaddya want.

And at least worth a phone call. People like this always want the boat off their property and gone "TODAY" .

Do you realise how much it costs to dispose of a boat?

I'm sure he's had to move it, but whether it's truly "gone"... now that will be another story entirely.

Oops! I posted a 'free' one under the $30k or less just now. Someone want to move it here for others to see? Thanks

Re: FREE, or close to free!

1965 Alberg 30. FREE. Located north shore of Lake Ontario (1 hour east of Toronto).

This boat has been "for sale" pretty cheap for quite some time, and now it looks like the owner just needs it gone. Looks like it needs some interior work, but Albergs are very good boats, likely well worth the effort.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Here's a nice little free O'Day 30. It appears to not be in terrible condition. It does have a bolt-on outboard.
