This boat has been "for sale" pretty cheap for quite some time, and now it looks like the owner just needs it gone. Looks like it needs some interior work, but Albergs are very good boats, likely well worth the effort.

In Channel Islands harbor. Not exactly "free" but I bet you could work a deal if you knew what you were looking at.

I'd go look at the Columbian if I knew anything at all about boats or even knew someone who knows something about boats. For the price it's not worth hiring a surveyor - IF you knew what you were looking at. The rigging could maybe be redone in Dyneema cheaper than wire and hanging an outboard on the stern shouldn't be that difficult. Do the through holes while it's on the hard, a little paint, scrubbing, a good airing out, and it might be a nice boat to learn to sail with.

I'd probably take a look at the Pearson too while I'm there and see if I could work a really good deal on her if the Columbian needs too much money/repairs.

The Mariners Ketch is oh so tempting but my spine won't let me do the kind of heavy work that a deck repair would probably require. Plus there's probably more down below that isn't being disclosed behind the "we don't know nothing" disclaimer. It's also probably tougher to learn how to sail in a ketch rig too. Especially when you don't know how or know anyone who knows how. But the price for a 31 foot ketch is tough to let pass.

There are a few other boats here in the 5K range that are currently "floating" and look pretty decent. But, like I said, I don't know nothing or know anyone who knows something. So what do I know...

That boat is in way worse shape than it appears to be. It has soft decks and the plywood bulkheads are starting to delaminate.

Waaaaaay over priced. Possibly too expensive if offered for free.

Sorry, I know tone can't be conveyed by typing, so please know I'm genuinely curious (and I have no personal investment in the answer - I just stumbled across that boat while browsing...)

To my eye, it just looked really, really dirty - inside and out.

How did you identify the soft decks and delam from the photos? Or do you just happen to already know the boat? (A local well-known headache-boat kind-of-thing that the owner may have been trying to unload for some time).

Thanks in advance for your response, Ben,
Warmly,
LittleWing77

A few months back I spent some time touring boat yards and marinas around Oriental down to Wilmington look at old neglected boats. One of the guys that was escorting me around the yard pointed it out. I had a quick peek inside and saw the damage. I started to walk the decks but soon as I started to step up the decks flexed. I'm kind of a fatty (230lbs) so the deck flex could be more me than any real problem. That boat is built kind of light.
