She must have been pretty strong.

Re: French Canal Depths?

France's longest river, the Loire, dries up amid extreme winter drought.

Sad and worrying to see.

Ditto for the canals in Venice, gone dry.

Re: French Canal Depths?

Less snowfall in the alps usually means less melt water in the inland waterways through the summer.... unless the drought ends and the summer brings heavy rains.

Re: French Canal Depths?

Hi David, I apologize for posting this way, but I am new to CSF and don't yet know how to direct message you. Back in May of 2015 you advertised a 30' powercat that I believe you had built. Can you tell me more about that boat and where it is now?

Now mostly past the ability to sail our 36' motorsailer AMA Natura, I am getting more interested in a hybrid power cat of about that size for Inside Passage working (decarbonizing) voyages. Thank you.

ummm... Last I checked Venice was built on islands in the Adriatic Sea. Despite a lot of media hype trying to convince people dry canals are the result of climate change, Venetian canals are tidal and levels reflect unusually low tides.

Re: French Canal Depths?

my wife and I did this starting in 2015. We started by entering from the Gironde river through the canal du midi and down to the med.
Then after a year in the med we went back up through Port St Louis into the Rhone to the Sohne then the voges canal . into the Moselle river and then into the Rhine. Down the Rhine to the Mitland canal to Berlin. From there across Northen Germany to the dutch border entering thorough Delfsail all the way to Vlissingen and from there into Belgium , France and many more to be done Our Voyage on 'www.gratisaustralis.com'. our boat was a Spray 42' draught 1.5m We "dredged" a few times in the upper reaches of the canal du midi.
