GA/SC marina for Sept/Oct

We would like to just park ourselves in a marina in GA/SC for Sept-Oct and looking for suggestions to check into. Would like reasonable hurricane protection and some place with stores, shopping and restaurants within fat people walking distance. Also want good internet access, which from my trip down last year isn't as much a given as marinas make you believe.

Re: GA/SC marina for Sept/Oct

I suggest joining Active Captain and using it as a resource to pick a marina. There are dozens of marinas in the area specified in all price ranges and all different sets of amenities.

The Charleston City Marina is nice if you don't mind the price. Langs Marina in St Marys, GA is cheap but it's a dump.

You're not really going to let strangers pick your home for two months are you?

St. Marys, GA is an interesting and friendly little town, well worth visiting.

What a great idea! I'll spend the next week or so reading all the AC reviews using the spotty Bahamas internet connect, but in the end I'll just blindly pick one based on a CF post

Brunswick Landing Marina is about as safe as you can get.
Pricing is not terrible, internet can be OK at times and "Downtown" is walking distance.
Parked the boat there for 18 months once and had no issues
Also summered there one year, hot, but nice

Hey SB

I thought you had already decided Brunswick Landing is Heaven on Earth. However the city isn't exactly Manhattan.

I like Charleston a lot as a stopover but not the cheapest place on the east coast. Further up one of the rivers is cheaper.

Yes Brunswick landing would be a good choice and I might end up there. But the internet connection was crap last Nov and I not sure that the free PBR and washing machines would make up for it.

That may be because of Hurricanes Hermine and Matthew. Our home port is at the Frederica Yacht Club right next to Morningstar Marina on St. Simons Island. After Hermine destroyed our docks, we moved temporarily to Brunswick Landing. We liked it and the internet service was fine, but it was more expensive than Morningstar and you really couldn't day sail from that marina as it'd take you an hour to get to the harbor (which you could sail, I supposed) and another hour out the shipping channel before you got to open water.

No provisioning within walking distance, but there are restaurants.

Best I can recommend is Brunswick Landing in Ga. decent sailing for day sails, close to town, good rates and Free Beer 24/7. Free laundry, free wine M-W-F 5 to 7. Good protection.
