GenZ has made it aboard!

I just saw someone from GenZ today living aboard.

I remember when the millennials were that young adult age you didn’t see too many of them getting on boats. I don’t know why that was.

But it was nice to see someone from the youngest adult generation out here getting their start.

Re: GenZ has made it aboard!

Younger millennial here. We're not living aboard, but we do spend quite a lot of time on the boat during the summers. Not sure how old the youngest liveaboard I've known is, but the youngest people I know that own a boat that's too big to trailer are right on the millennial / GenZ border.

I expect we'll see more come into the hobby with time. But of course, that's dependent on how many live in places where they're exposed to boats sufficiently and how many can afford to get into boating in this world.

Re: GenZ has made it aboard!

There's one at the dock across from me.

I'm guessing he is either an engineer/tech contractor (or engineer/tech student) like many of us here.

His boat is about 27' long like mine, and he has an old 4 hp 2 stroke on a wooden or wooden reinforced bracket.

A fin keel boat I'd say and not in bad shape.

The thing is he has 5 huge rigid solar panels onboard 2-3 of which are maybe 5' x 4'.

He also has 3 long flexible solar panels hanging off the port lifeline on the Sun side of the boat.

He also has the standard large propane tank secured on deck.

The panels block all entrances except the forward hatch.

This is where he comes and goes from the boat.

He drives a late model foreign car

If and when I meet him, I plan to ask him about his solar controllers and batteries. Should be interesting
