Getting a new phone while in the states and will be leaving for South Pacific and beyond.

Google Fi is a good resource for world TRAVEL, not so much for living overseas.

Read the fine print on the user agreement, you agree use the service predominantly in the USA. If you use the SIM card for more than 6 consecutive months overseas, your data access will be suspended until such time as you can convince them that you are "predominantly" based in the USA again. And, NO, a visit of a few weeks back home does NOT reset the clock.

If your data is suspended, your access to voice and text will continue at the same price as before.

If you have the RIGHT dual sim card phone, after your google data is suspended, you can get a local sim card for data, and configure your phone to access FI for phone and SMS, and the local card for data. It's not a cheap option, but does keep you connected to your USA phone number.
