Re: Has anyone been following Greta and Boris Herrmmann?

A young girl fighting for her future and the future of the planet? Seems you'd have to be pretty cynical to find fault with that.

Re: Has anyone been following Greta and Boris Herrmmann?

Innocent youth and the sport of sailing exploited for base political ends, have these people no shame.

It's your world she's fighting for as well, way past politics now.
That's just denial talking.
Anyway, others like her.
Nothing personal

Re: Has anyone been following Greta and Boris Herrmmann?

It's rank exploitation no matter the cause. There's very little chance of her having a normal childhood now. It's not as though the CC/AGW don't get enough free publicity for their opinions already. Child abuse in spades.

And, a racing sail boat sails across the Atlantic - big deal. There's a bunch of them do it every year and with other boats as competitors.

Re: Has anyone been following Greta and Boris Herrmmann?

I wonder how many barrels of oil were needed to be refined into the plastics that were used to form my boat hull. How many are needed for each set of synthetic sails? (Anyone here sail with canvas?).
While I enjoy the piece (sic) and quiet of sailing, I am under no illusion that my recreational boating lifestyle is doing anything at all to decrease my carbon footprint.

Perhaps not as many barrels of oil as it took to produce the $4M race boat that Greta sailed across the Atlantic on to selflessly enlighten us with her message. I just read that the crew were purchasing "offsets" to compensate for their jetting back to Europe. Have you purchased yours?

People:. The boat she got a ride on existed before she even knew she was coming to the States, so the carbon footprint of manufacturing it is irrelevant to her.
Take you complaints up with the racing team.

Re: Has anyone been following Greta and Boris Herrmmann?

This child is being manipulated by her mother & green extremists. At her age she cannot comprehend the complexities of the issue, and no one can debate with her because of her age. It's sad to see politicians & media pandering to the green extreme.

pirate Re: Has anyone been following Greta and Boris Herrmmann?

I personally feel age has little to do with understanding, intelligence and education however has a lot to do with it, seem to remember a Pakistani girl fighting for access to education for girls around the world when she was a bit younger being lauded by the world.
But then she was an example of the 'evils' of Islam so age and comprehension were not remotely considered and she was/is universally feted.
Her Cause is good and I believe (for 50yrs now) a just and necessary one.. but as with all causes you find the fanatics and loonies on the fringe.. along with the bandwagon leeches.

You know little of Greta.
Better a Lefist contributing to global awareness about a GLOBAL problem.
Than a conservative complaining about how they believe a child couldn't bring a message of hope to a World needing answers.
Some may remember Jesus.

But conservatives wonder...
Any idea of the profit margin, geeze!

How absolutely absurd and cynical that there are but a few that can't seem to get with the awareness of this very real issue.
Our elected POTUS included.

Mariners should care deeply that our Oceans are in deep peril.
Maybe a land life is more suited for those without care.
And a different forum.

The only extreme issue here is a extreme lack of the will it takes to change.
Many other "extreme" countries have healthcare for their people, a green plan for energy.
Yet, here, lazy or selfish ones believe they can dictate how ridiculous they believe it is to change.
Defeatism!!!
It's got a rotten smell!
Clean the Cobb webs out!

I think I know a thing or two about Swedish politics....

Make no mistake she is a mouthpiece for her mother.

I'm all for being environmentally conscious. The point here is she is a child, who knows nothing about what makes the world go 'round. The left is using her. It's a publicity stunt, one that will ultimately produce more greenhouse gasses than if she had simply flown to NY and back... How she has any qualifications to speak to the UN is beyond me....

I see it only took a couple of pages this time to suggest silencing those who have the audacity to express opinions that differ from the one (and apparently only) message. Or equating those who question the effectiveness of a 16 year-old sailing across an ocean on a $4M yacht made from fossil fuels -- with none other than AOC awaiting her arrival at the dock -- with not "caring" about the environment. Have you thought whether this sort of attitude -- as fashionable as its become these days -- may be alienating many like-minded people who aren't as inclined to politicize & personalize climate change and other important environmental issues? Politics is inevitable, but partisanship only creates more of the division you claim to abhor.
