Surely you jest. How do you think the polyester & epoxy resins are made?

I jest.

It's not good for the environment to make the plastic.

Lots of carbon is sequestered though when you do your laminating. Until you burn the boat.

Read my post. I said the manufacturing/production process could produce CO2 which is what your graphic indicates.

I am confirmed in my opinion that's it luvverly to have money and influence. Does wonders for sons and daughters. Years ago, when I was still Scowegian, I formulated the dictum that "Money isn't everything, but it's sure as little apples a long, LONG way ahead of whatever it is that's in second place!"

I confess to being. like most Scowegians, a bit of a tree-hugger meself. But using kiddies as political instrumentalities, as Ernman appears to be doing (tho', in fairness, she herself may be an instrumentality), is not something I recall from my youth in that benighted part of the world. I suspect someone there accidentally let down the BS-shields and cultural diffusion ran rampant.

Still, just for nostalgias sake, I'll gladly take Greta and her Mum sailing around the various Swedish settlement on this coast. Might even teach Greta how to sail the boat :-)

It got even more disgusting. Not just another celebrity entertainer seeking public attention but sacrificing her daughters childhood to do so. How low can these people go.

I read your post -- twice actually. It didn't read any more accurate the second time. The refining/distillation process that produces resin from crude oil does produce noxious emissions, in addition to CO2.

I don't understand your logic. If the boat had not been built then the oil that was used to build it would have been burnt instead?? Building the boat created emissions; flying across the ocean in a jet creates emissions. Sequestering the carbon used to build the boat has zero impact on the amount of carbon that is burned and emitted.

Re: Has anyone been following Greta and Boris Herrmmann?

Greta's had a bit of an impact, for a 16YO schoolgirl.
For instance:

Greta Thunberg (a 2019 nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize) speeches:
https://www.fridaysforfuture.org/gre...ech_apr16_2019

EU’s Juncker proposes billions of spending on climate change after a 16-year-old’s speech ➥ https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/22/junc...rg-speech.html

A kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She walked around to look at the artwork. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.
The girl replied, "I'm drawing God."
The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."
Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing the girl replied,
"They will in a minute."

The next question is whether the teacher -- and any other adults in the room -- actually believed her?

And people wonder why the majority of Brits want to leave the EU?

Another Greta, who according to her mother can see CO2

“She can see carbon dioxide with the naked eye. She sees how it flows out of chimneys and changes the atmosphere in a landfill.”

A "miracle."

With other member nations trying to follow suit.

For accuracy's sake, maybe the comment should read:

"EU’s Juncker proposes billions of spending of other peoples' money on climate change after a 16-year-old’s speech."

The "Sailboat Stunt" was rather harmless except to the extent that in its silliness it detracts from other things young Greta has done, among them the things GordMay points to.

What is NOT silly is that Greta and her age cohort will be eligible to vote in Sweden's next General Election, just as the age cohort of the young people who took the blow at Parkland FL will be able to vote in the next US General Election but one.

Rectification of those ills of the world that my generation and yours failed to deal with is in the hands of Greta's generation. Given the nature of the electoral system in Sweden there is some probability that your generation and mine will give the young people candidates that are worthy of their vote. I have no such hope for the majority of nations in the world. And that includes my own adopted nation.

But it's easy to be righteous when you are Scowegian. In fact it's a firm requirement inculcated in young people from their earliest years at school and often at home.

"We Danes don't..." was my mother's invariable lead-in to some dismissive comment about the way things are done elsewhere!

Now you people get back to cruising while I report to the Headmaster's office for transgressing against the "no politics" rule. :-)
