If you are hopping from port to port you should check the weatherfax on the Internet.

Northeast Pacific WX Briefing Package

That will give you a four day forecast including sea state.

You can also check grib files for a wind forecast of up to 8 days; it trust it for 4 days and get of sense of what might happen for the following 4.

I use zygrib - zyGrib: grib file, weather data visualization

VHF Radio. WX channels here in N California.

With internet, the written CG WX reports are exactly what is broadcast by the "automated voice."
