Hi-Lo Tables and Mechanisms...

We're looking for a large hi-lo table for our salon. It needs to be fairly large - we'd like to seat 6-8 for eating but have it fold up (and probably rotated) to use as a coffee table too.

I can't understand why these things are so unbelievably expensive. I don't need inlaid wood designs of mermaids and compass roses. We live on the boat - I want something sturdy that we can put our feet on but still works well as a dining room table.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there standard mechanisms available for the hi-lo part so perhaps I could design something that a carpenter could put together for me?

Abaco hit the nail on the head. It only takes one time shopping for pre-made tables to realise what you've figured out - buy the pedestals and have one made to your specs.
