Re: Holland 34 Good or Bad ?

They were an early IOR racer that, did very well. Holland also had great success with the 25. both models tended to be a bit tender but when pushed hard, stiffen up, I remember racing on both the early 80 out of Port Hacking. very sparse inside as they where a racer and they were a handful under spinnaker. I would love to sail on one again, fast wet and full of go.

Re: Holland 34 Good or Bad ?

Hi Simon thanks for that it has been fitted out as a live aboard coastal cruiser. They say they have been sailing it around Tasmania and the east coast of Aus.It just seemed cheap at 25G and couldnt find much info on the web.It has a doger which might make it a bit dryer.Hard choise so many boats on the market and I only want to spend about 35G.
Regards Greg.

Wow, they turned a pretty boat ugly, all for headroom. You could have more room and better comfort in a compass 28/29 or a Duncanson 29, both much better cruisers

Re: Holland 34 Good or Bad ?

That particular boat looks as though it has been heavily modified - The "doghouse" aft of the mast is almost certainly a retrofit.
I expect that the boat was designed and built as an IOR half-tonner, as a pure racing boat. As such, Holland drew some nice boats. But taking an IOR half-tonner as a live-aboard cruiser does have some challanges. Not so say those challenges need to be "deal-breakers", but if you are not familiar with this era of racing boat, you may wish to do some homework. Great price though.
