How Do You Find a Good Broker?

Hi All,

I'm trying to find a good broker in the the Chicago area.

Any suggestions on how to go about finding the right one for a sailboat survey?

Thanks

To be clear, are you looking for a broker or a surveyor?

I checked the certification sites and then started calling until I found one with good resume and communication skills. Worked out well.

Re: How Do You Find a Good Broker?

How would you search for a good surveyor in a foreign country that is capable to explain his verdict at least in English? Are there international organization that one can contact to find the right guy or do you bring your own surveyor from your home land?

Re: How Do You Find a Good Broker?

Ask for sample surveys on similar boats from each surveyor.

Looking at just one will seem comprehensive. Seeing a slew will show the first one that looked comprehensive is just a bunch of words. You'll figure out who looks at every little connection real quick!

FutureStories,

Have been doing that very thing. One refused, others had samples posted on their website. I have no choice but to put my trust in the one that give me the best gut feeling.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks!
