How long have you owned your boat?

Was wondering this weekend how long people have held on to their boats. I have had mine for 16 years now and wondered how many others have partnered for life with the same girl

Same boat 17 years. Same girl 49 years. No plans to sell either.

Old boas and old ladies have a good deal in common. E.g., they cost a fair amount to maintain, can sometimes be a bit cranky, but, are invariably reliable in a pinch!

My wife, 62, sometimes complains about my "old boat" (31 years) and "old car" (36 years). I remind her that, at this stage, my unwillingness to trade in "old stuff" for a younger model should be considered a virtue, no?

Hi there, I built my Flicka in 1993, I still own it, i'm nearing the completion of a complete refit after a fire on board in mid channel, and I hope we will both still be together in the next 24 years. I am 66 years old now. My boat is for life.

Not my boat but a friend is selling his Allied Sea Breeze after 40 years. He bought her when she was 7 and he was 50. Now, at 90 he is just not physically able to use her anymore. She needs some work but still has another 40 years in her.

Boat 18 years, but I don't seem to keep the ladies as long - new models are appearing quite frequently!

I just finished a successful survey and seatrial on a boat i'm selling. We've enjoyed 9 seasons on the boat. We love it, but we're moving up. We bought a bit large for our first boat, which allowed us to grow into her. The intention was to avoid the '2 foot-itis'. Our new boat is a little over 10 feet longer and 4.5 feet wider.

We had a '10 year plan' on the first boat, which worked well for us. We have a 10 year plan on this boat as well.

Have owned my sail boat for 15 years. There are so many dodgy boats out there and the buying process so tedious and difficult, I think that when you find on good one then hang on to her. You''l obviously know its foibles, maintenance history and can make bespoke improvements.

I've had my trailerable Macgregor Venture 22 since 1982, a Soling (project boat) since 2004 and my recent purchase, a 1982 O'Day 30 for a little over a year. The wife and I are in our 32nd year. Lots of good sailing.

THIS boat i have only owned since 2008-9. i have lived on board since 1990 and sailed since 1955.
i will keep this boat until she becomes a viking funeral pyre.

Like a lot of guys, I guess long boat ownership and long marriages go together. I have been married to the same woman for 43 years and owned Callisto 23 years...
In 23 years; two new engines, three generators, two water makers, two autopilots, new fuel and water tanks, one new stove, one new water heater, five air conditioning units, three ice makers and now...sadly ALL NEW CHAIN PLATES! I hope I can leave the boat to my sons and their families. They grew up on her and it was part of their childhood.
