How long to run electric head?

My holding tank is fairly small (14g) and I have traditionally run my electric head (raritan dual water) with freshwater for 10 seconds after usage but this causes the tank to fill quickly. How long should you hold the flush for a #1 in an ideal world and when trying to conserve black water tank space?

Re: How long to run electric head?

How long is the hose between the head and holding tank, and what volume of water does your head pump?

I’d want to run the head long enough to clear the “deposit” from the hose.

Re: How long to run electric head?

I don't worry about flushing out the line really, just the bowl.

Re: How long to run electric head?

Our automatic electric heads have an economy mode = 2 seconds of flush 3 seconds to clear and 3 seconds to re-fill the bowl, and a standard mode (which we use for no 2) 6 seconds of flush 6 seconds to clear the bowl and 3 seconds to re-prime. So you could probably use 20% less water at 8 seconds

A good "rule of thumb" would be 3 seconds after urine only, at least 7 seconds after solids and/or TP.

Also consider replacing your single button flush with one that has 3 options--bring water into the bowl ahead of use (which you should always do ahead of solid waste even if you can only use a cup from the sink), "dry" flush (no flush water added) for urine only and the same simultaneous flush that a single button does.

I feel this needs more info.

I use the expensive hose! I feel it is well worth the extra money and this factors in I feel to everything
I do a big flush once in a while.
I add some acid once in a while to deal with the scale.

It is all a trade off of filling the holding tank, having to replace smelly hoses, dealing with clogs (I have only ever had a scale clog before I added the acid into my "program")

This is what I have. So would you dry flush for urine only and then refill?

I'd dry flush followed by a short burst of simultaneous flush to rinse out the discharge line.
