Hull damaged? Bad repair?

Any ideas of what one is looking at in these photos? You are looking forward in the bilge, behind the viewer would be the engine room that slopes down into bilge you are looking at. The red item in one of the photos is a carpenters pencil stuck into the 1/4 inch gap. It the second photo, if one looks above and to the left of the pencil, it looks like fiberglass laid on top. The fourth photo is the center, while the last photo is to the left of the same area. If one looks closely at the last photo, to the right of whatever that lump is, one can see the crack.

This area did not match the quality of craftmanship of the rest of the boat and bilge. If you look at the top of the first two photos, you can see the vertical surface with a hole (would this be called a stringer?) that shows the better quality of build.

Why would there be all these undulations in an area that should be smooth?

Thoughts? Normal?

Thanks, in advance, for your input.

Hard to be sure based only on pictures but it certainly looks like my 6 year old grandson was playing with resin.

Re: Hull damaged? Bad repair?

Looks like someone threw a bunch of scrap in the bilge them poured resin on top. Ya gotta wonder what they were trying to fix. Tread carefully.

Model of boat would help with better responses. Some shoddy builders did the same thing.
I once found an automotive damper plate in the resin covered concrete ballast of a highly thought of builder.

From Searles; "a transverse member glassed into the bilge."

Thanks Searles. Transverse member is a better description.
