Fractionally nervy about this passage because it can get nasty as we have seen from the Azores boats.

Its a straight shot and should take me east of the Bahamas by 600nms, east of Hatteras by 200, and west of Bermuda by 100.
1,500 nms total.

So I expect a beer from NY members when I get there

It will be great to get to sea!

Email from Mark's satfone as below. PM me if you are (fairly) expert forecaster for Hatteras area, or have access to longer range wx. Mark is one day into 12ish day sail st martin to NYC. Matt (in st martin)

Hi Matt. Thanks for the great SMS reports!! Please don't reply to tis email by email because my Iridium Moments (too short for minutes) are a worry. They took 12 mins to set the bloody account up!
On time/on course. 21 52N 64 44W Winds NE at 8 - 12 but current still heading W so I have a 45 to 55 deg wind angle. Current heads N soon.
Lovely gentle sail. Kept slow since beginning to ensure I don't catch up with Wednesdays windy bit. Each cloud that goes doesnt give strong wind but sucks it up so zero for 30mins. Bizarre.
Great having first passage with proper freezer, computer on all night, satellite data etc. Solar and Wind gen have me at 100% by nightfall.
Please keep eye on Cape Hatteras in a few days
Mark
PS if u want u can post this to Cruisers Forum on thread "St Martin to New York" I started a few days ago. But definitely not necessary.

Re: I'm heading out... St Martin to New York

not an expert but it looks like a good weather window, no changes from departure. A couple of troughs to contend with which hes probably feeling the effects of right now. Nothing untoward in the 10 day outlooks.

Most people are probably going to start "talking" about the weather. But I believe that to Mark the above is the key item!

That all depends on if he is sailing single handed or not. I can only imagine that after a few days alone at sea even the dolphins look pretty.
