Yes thank you for the update - I would not expect Bluewater to survive a cat 5 similar to Yassi , however If the piles had been built to the correct height at Hinchinbrook it is quite possible there would have been less damage and consequently a smaller insurance pay out.
Yassi was a bit of an exception, lets hope we don't get another like that for a while.

It could also be argued that if owners had moved vessels the few short miles into the mangroves as is the well recognised thing to do in a cyclone, there would have been less damage and consequently a smaller insurance pay out.

Right, I was there when it happened too. I just didn't think other reader's should unquestionably accept EW's stated reason. These guys have been at it for a long time.

Tried them, dont offer insurance in Australia.

Re: Insurance for tropical waters Australia

In the end, after much research, it became clear that there was no possibility to get insurance for our boat. No Australian insurer will consider boats on swing moorings outside of Darwin in the NT.

We ended up just getting a Third Party Only policy from Edward William, it may help if we need to enter a marina or haul out at some point in the future. Cost was minimal so we decided it was worth the punt. They did offer us full Comprehensive, but it was impossible to get any confidence that we would actually have cover given the stories we read online.
