International Cruising with North Carolina registration

I need to register my boat which I purchased recently in Asia. My previous vessel was registered in North Carolina, USA and I cruised in the Bahamas and Caribbean with no issues. What I would like to know and cannot find on the web is can I travel in Asia with a North Carolina registration without any issues regarding customs in those countries. I do not want to federally document the vessel with the US Coast Guard. Documenting the vessel in another country such as Malaysia or Holland requires an agent and higher costs than doing it in North Carolina.

There is not a clear answer to your question. In all of the ports available to yachts in Asia and the Indian Ocean a US Document looks official and is familiar - go on to the next step. State registration will just be unfamiliar. Some officials will get out their stamp and move on, others will balk. How long it will take you to get over the resistance depends on both sides attitudes.
