Larry Pardey Has Passed Away

He had been suffering for a while, and passed away last night. See Lin's Facebook page for details.

Very sad to hear this news. Larry & Lin were, and still are, inspirations for me in my cruising life.

So true, Mike, well put. I read and reread their many books back when I wuz a yunggun. They wrote so well, too. Their travels were written like novels and unlike Tristan, who was great, too, they taught while being entertaining. And their "manuals" were superb. In all of their guidance, the one I keep remembering, for some odd reason, is that if you're painting your boat interior white, add some blue, it's more pleasing to the eye.

Re: Larry Pardey Has Passed Away

Never met either Lynn or Larry, but bought everyone of their books, some I bought twice (organizational dysfunction), and have read them and referred to them many times...they all still grace one of my many shelves of books about all things sailing. Their exploits have been a guide to my attempt at minimalism around sailing. Truly inspirational adventurers. Recall reading "Cruising in Seraffyn" and Lynn describing how Larry brought the oil lamps below to light them....I thought, hey, I can be like Larry and install oil lamps below...then came to my senses, in that they had no engine and it was 1976! And realizing I could never be like Larry - the Pardeys were a breed apart. Sad to see him go without the privilege of having met him face-to-face.

Re: Larry Pardey Has Passed Away

Like other's here..I devoured the "Pardey's" books in my youth....Larry certainly set the standard....and was undoubtable the inspiration for many. Probably starting a " build your own boat" seminar up in the clouds as we speak. Yep, can hear the hammer and chisel from here !!

Lin, your loss must fee as deep as the ocean. You and Larry were not just inspirations for your boatbuilding and cruising but for your relationship that crossed seas and decades and life times. I hope the memories you two stowed away on board sustain you for the rest of your journey.
With love,
One of many sailors who you touched

Re: Larry Pardey Has Passed Away

Very admirable cruising couple, it's quiet an achievement to both build your own boats and cover the sea miles they did.

Very sad to hear the news. I trust that he had quite a fullfilled life doing what he loved with whom he loved.
