Leather chafe foot genoa

The sacrifical Sunbrella on our genoa has chafed against the lifelines. The sailmaker has suggested sewing leather along the bottom to prevent further wear. Depending on the length, i’m worried about the appearance when furled.

What do you think about this?

A tidy, soft leather patch should look okay. (Think suede elbow patches on tweed jackets.) Sunbrella is very vulnerable to chafe, and other fabrics are unlikely to give you a color match.

I don't drink beer, but everyone I know says 2 beers makes everything look great.

Re: Leather chafe foot genoa

Thanks Ann - I just spoke with the sailmaker and this sound like my best option. We are only talking a few wraps and it will prevent further chafe. FWIW, I've put strips of leather on both my dodger and bimini to prevent chafe -- looks fine.

A couple of beers sounds good!

Don, you're ok What matters is that you are enjoying your boat more than spending tons of time and/or money on what other people think about "looks". If I see your chafe repair and think that's a good idea for my boat too then we both win.
