Re: Leaving an oscillating fan running?

So many boat fires are caused by a fan. A lot can happen with a fan because you are wearing bearings. It's different than most de-humidifiers. Also, a fan increases heat in an enclosed space. It only feels cool to you because it is helping evaporate moisture from your skin. The electric motor and the friction of the air hitting other molecules generates heat.
A dehumidifier or led lightbulb are safer.

I like your heat producing "bearing wear" concern. Very legitimate.

That is true but I bet the number of hours run is much less on a dehumidifier.

I think there is some value to keeping the air moving inside the boat.
More ideal is air exchange in and out of the boat.

I don't mind leaving my solar and 12VDC stuff running.

I've never felt comfortable leaving the boat plugged into shore power, or leaving on inverters.

I just bought a 140mm Noctua brand fan and PWM controller.

This is the best brand of small DC fan that I know of. They also make 5V fans to hook to a USB.

I would like to install solar fans, both in and out. Anyone know the best airflow for these on a catamaran? Like in through the hulls, and out through the salon? This is my thought but I'm not sure.
