Liability insurance Quebec

Hello, I am not sure if its the right forum, but I have a question.

Last summer we purchased a sailboat and have been renovating it since, this summer we are going to put in water and we need a liability insurance for the boat for our slip in a marina. The problem is, the two insurance companies that I called want another survey to be done.

Is it normal?

I would like to save a few hundred dollars :-/ if I can and if anyone can recommend a company to insure our old sailboat in Quebec.

Thanks.

You may ask your home insurance if they cover if the boat is not worth to much
Marine insurance will always ask for surveys for the value of the boat. But if you only need liability your home insurance should do it.
Where will the boat be?

Lake Champlain .

For the moment i dont have home insurance, renting for the moment.
I did call my car insurance and they told me i have to have home insurance with them to insure the boat. They dont insure boats alone .

Lake Champlain is mostly in the US. Check with US companies, or buy a house.

Some Renter's policies offer the same kind of riders as Homeowners

Home insurance will work only if your boat is 26 foot or smaller.
Most of the insurance companies will ask for a recent survey (less than 5 years in general). I was insured by La Capitale and during winter 2017, my sailboat was on the hard, so I got insurance on the hard only (not authorized to sail) until I have a new survey.

But if you need a liability insurance only (All the Marinas will require 2 Millions liability insurance to let you in) try to reach out to this insurance broker and tell them you don't have a survey Osborn & Lange | We strive to deliver quality insurance products and set the highest standards in service and reliability for our clients

Good luck.
