Looking for a good surveyor

I'm looking of a recommended surveyor for a 55' sailing boat around Southampton.
Appreciate reliable recommendations.

Re: Looking for a good surveyor

As a boatbuilder i have yet to meet a good surveyor. A friend and customer of mine just sold his 40ft sailboat which he had owned for 25 years since it was new. At my suggestion he had a preemptive survey done so he could deal with any problems before selling it. The purchaser also had a survey done, bought the boat and had it trucked from the midwest to San Francisco and when getting it ready to go back in the water the marina discovered that the balsa core in the bottom was rotten around the thru hulls, the new owner is facing a $15000 repair bill he was not expecting. My friend of course feels bad about it but he didn't know of the issue, the new owner had followed the recommendations of having a survey done. Very frustrating. I have seen similar situations so often that i would not trust any surveyor unless he had years of prior boatbuilding experience and had insurance that would cover the repairs if he misses obvious stuff like this.
