Lost Prout Catamaran

My 37 foot Prout is adrift from another boat dragging during a storm and cutting my anchor line. We think it was spotted adrift going South west off of Basiementos island near Bocas Del toro Panama. it was anchored next to the Bocas Marina and possibly drifted between Carenero and Bastiementos out to sea. I assume it will pass Cusipin and go onward south considering winds and currents. It will not have an anchor. it is stripped of electronics. It may be in San Blas by now. What a nightmare!

I hope you can locate it quickly. People will try to help if you have a position for it. Even, pay someone to take you out to it and sail it back. Buy appropriate paper charts to see where to not go, and a cheap GPs so you can plot your possie on the chart. Use a fish weight and a lead line, for depths, as necessary, if all electronics are gone.

It does not help your situation in any way but.. if/when you get her back.. switch to all chain.

Is it possible that all chain would cause a tangled mess as boats break loose and drift into the chain...then boats start banging into each other in a bad storm?

But at least you would find your boat I guess.

My boat is still missing some where off the East coast of Panama. When I find it I can motor and sail back, I have a portable depth guage and use my Ipad to navigate. I hope the batteries are still there.

I am in Bocas marina, Been here a month. If you were in anchorage off of marina, all the boats that dragged ended up hard in the mangroves to the east due to the winds in the most recent storm. Cut you anchor line?? Hard to believe. Going southwest off Bastimentos, how did it get 2 miles north east when the winds were southwest, thru the busiest panga area and then work its way off caranero thru the anchorage past the sand bar thru an area Most can barely dingy thru due to depths out to sea? Now its pff the east coast of Panama 48hrs later, don't think so.

This smells of BS to me. No mention whatsoever on the nets down here....

Sorry to be hardcore, but anybody can look at google earth and see how absurd this is. I might give you its in Almirante bay. BTW the second to last boat just got pulled out of the mangroves yesterday.

Where are you now? Where were you during the afternoon of the storm? Have you contacted the port captain? What is the name of your boat?

FWIW, Swatches of SOLAS Reflective Tape at places on the hull, just underneath of the toe rail, & at several heights on the spar really help in finding boats which go wandering without permission. Saved mine once, thankfully. And I surely hope that this turns out well.

Except for the fact it was seen off of Bastiamentos I would agree that was this a near impossible feat. the wind was from the South which would push it out between Caranero and Basti and there is a current there. Also i cannot find my anchor or the 200 lb. weight I had chained in front of the anchor. The BEN network is so local ,but it would be nice if they did announce it tomorrow morning but it is long gone out of this area. I was in David and returned Saturday night with no boat there. At that time I learned of the possible sighting from 2 people. I have contacted the US Coast guard.

Since we left the US, this is the 3rd time something like this has come up, and it always seems to lead to a gofundme page, or wanting hand outs from other cruisers w/o any confirmation. I apologize for shooting my mouth off too quick. Sorry for your loss, it is a shame someone didn't take action on your behalf sooner. I know if I saw a boat drifting thru anchorages and out to sea, I would have!

Presumably, if you are asking for a stern drive for a Prout you managed to get your boat back, yes?
