It could be something simple like the acr Uncombining in idle so only one bank is charging. You need to look at the whole system.

I would not adjust to 12.1. That means if your alt fails. You will not be notified untill your batteries are 50% dead. You want to know Right when it fails. Which is why it’s set to 12.7.

If the bank is droping below 12.7 with the engine running either you have a decent load or the batteries were pretty low to start with. Even if you shut the engine off it should not be at 12.4 Unless the batteries were at ~65% or you had a big load. Or the batteries were bad.

Have you measured the amp output of the alt at idle? You should get something. It just won’t be big. Maybe 10-20a
Smac999, thank you and you got me thinking again like everyone else has.

The alternator is wired to a electronic battery isolator RCE. https://www.cristec.fr/english/our-p...ery-isolators/

The regulator volt sense wire is wired to the house battery bank. This boat has three banks. One start, three house, two bow thruster batteries.

Ya, when the engine is off. The house bank sits at 12.6 12.5 even though at some point the battery bank showed 12.4. Or 12.3. It’s a intermediate problem and sometimes doesn’t even happen. Other times even with the batteries full charged off of shore power it will happen.

Yes at a idle I’ve measured 3.5 -4.5 amps charging from the alternator after the batteries where fully charged off of shore power. (Over night)

Thanks for your time
