Magellan, first man around Cape Horn

Just recently I took a trip to Panama, and along with me I took a book a friend had recommended,.....WOW what a sea story

Magellan by Stefan Zweig

Conqueror OF THE Seas THE Story OF Magellan - Scholar's Choice Edition

https://www.amazon.com/Conqueror-Sea...der_1406760064

Quote:
The Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan (1480–1521) is one of the most famous navigators in history – he was the first man to sail from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, and led the first voyage to circumnavigate the globe, although he was killed en route in a battle in the Philippines.
In this biography, Zweig brings to life the Age of Discovery by telling the tale of one of the era’s most daring adventurers. In typically flowing and elegant prose he takes us on a fascinating journey of discovery ourselves.

That's true. I just abbreviated the task as around the bottom of South America to reach the Pacific ocean.

Very interesting book, particularly his problems with some of his crew (some mutiny), the hardships, ...and the fact that he had to get Spain to sponsor him rather than his native Portugal.

The Horn wasnt doubled for another 100 years!!!

Surprising we dont remember it very well.

Maybe you mean the first "European" man, as I'm sure indigenous people traversed that area long before Magellan!!
