Re: Magic!

9.00 PM one dark night, sailing into an Australia guarded by the great barrier reef, 6 days & 1100 nautical miles out of Honiara, Guadalcanal, guided only by a cheep plastic sextant, the time signals from Hawaii, & some calculations done on the saloon table, looking for the narrow passage that will let me in to Cairns. My first night approach to a lea shore, fringed by coral.

Boy I would have loved some magic in the form of a GPS, but mere yachties could not afford such luxuries in the early 70s. Easier the next couple of times. Still no GPS, but a lot more confidence born of experience.

Re: Magic!

despite knowing the theory intimately, i've always thought that taking a sailing boat to windward - ie using the force opposing you to actually move forward - is just plain magic

the feeling can be magical too...

cheers,

Certainly true! And then when you see boats like L'Hydroptere doing 50+ knots over the water, or the Vestas sail rocket 65 knots, it's even more unbelievable.

Being able to run that AC all the time at anchor without a noisy generator running would be real magic

Re: Magic!

So I closed on a house 3 days ago and want to update magic:

- ice just comes out of the front door of the freezer and all you have to do is hold your glass under it
- water comes out and out and out and out of the faucet and the pressure pump never comes on and the tank never goes empty
- you just push a handle and poop disappears and no matter how may times you do it the holding tanks never fills up
- it is only 20' from the back door to the car
- Amazon brings packages right to your porch
- unlimited internet is only $25/mo and it is FAST
- when car drives by the house doesn't rock and roll
- full size clothes washer and drier right on the back porch
- there are 12 windows and you can see out of all of them and never worry about the water level getting up to
- forget not having enough batteries, you don't need no ****en batteries

Re: Magic!

Congratulations!
And, continuing our tour: Here’s our bedroom, where the magic happens.
I say: “I’m horny”, and my wife disappears.
