Re: "marinized wife"

As you can tell, my admiral was a bit stressed out when this was taken.........

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Re: "marinized wife"

Some like it, some do not. Possibly impossible to tell before a sea-trial.

And I am blessed.

I took the private charter route. Working well so far. Lessons likely in the future.

Re: "marinized wife"

First time every sailing together, we were "crew" -- defined as two extra folk to help pay the charter. Me, some 15 yrs ocean experience at the time; her, lake sailing on her own license but no blue-water experience. Captain some guy I knew who talked a good game. Little did I know....

....Insert voyage from hell here....

So anyway, when we got back to town my wife (girlfriend at the time) decides that men don't know nothing 'bout nothin. She takes night school sailing courses. We charter boats - just us two - and build her sea miles. Two years of that and off she goes for the practical license exam. Passes it, and ends up her license is higher level then mine.

Twenty years now we've been sailing together - just us two aboard.

I don't have an "admiral" aboard - I've a fully competent partner.

Photo (if this works...) somewhere twixt New Zealand and Tonga, repairs underway.

Re: "marinized wife"

To anybody who is not into single-handing, a good 1st mate is priceless. If you meet the right one, tie her/him down, drag aboard and cast the lines.

Someone said that good crew are like good charts: buy them, borrow them or steal them, and do NOT go without.

Re: "marinized wife"

My wife's so marinized it was her idea to move the family on board a boat!

(Well that's what she thinks anyway!)

I know for sure it's a lot more enjoyable when a beautiful creature brings everything closer to the tiller!

Good luck with the 2nd first one
