Well, I did decide on the winch system, a fairly inexpensive model, but it has way more power than it will ever need, but it's a slow pull with the buttons on the remote I can do nice short bursts and keep my eyes on all the cables and lines while I raise the mast. i did a brief test hoist yesterday and it seems to work fine. Of course the weak link in my "system" is attaching the winch cable to the forestay. But I am thinking of attaching a cable to the mast with a cable that is shorter than the forestay that way when the mast is all the way up I just need to grab the stay and attach it to the deck plate.
