Maxwell RC8 Windlass Drainage Slots

Just installed my new Maxwell RC8 and have discovered that by design it has drainage slots which allow water out underneath to avoid damage to the motor. Unfortunately, since I have installed my motor assembly in the vberth this means I get some water leakage. I am presently on dry land (launching in a few weeks) with the bow slightly raised on the hard - this means that when it rains the water does not flow forward and out the chain hole. Just wondering how other owners of the RC8 windlass are dealing with water dripping out the designed drainage slots when installed in the living space of your boat?
