Mega Yachts

I looked around and didn't see any threads about Mega Yachts or Giga yachts and thought well let's fix that. So Do you like Mega Yachts, hate em. Have you crewed on one, or own one? And if you own one can we have a CF party on it? <-Most important question.

Personally I am torn on these monsters. Just the thought of what it costs to run one and the fuel they burn is insane. But then I look at the Sailing Mega Yachts and some Green ideas that are out there now. It makes me wonder how many will start investing in these technologies simply to save on gas.

Re: Mega Yachts!

I don't have anything against them. I'm also not jealous of the owners. The boats I appreciate the most are retro mega models. I also like A. I've seen Eclipse several times and it's huge and very well done but just seems - Plain? "A" has a different look, like the Nautilus. Luna is a nice expedition mega.

The costs must be astronomical.

Re: Mega Yachts!

Saw "Kokomo" in the Whitsundays last year. The size of it's rig is just amazing. There was a normal charter type Bene/Jeannaux anchored near it, and it's rig barely reached the first spreader. Kokomo has 5 spreaders!

Now that is just beautiful! I could definitely own something like that. I wonder how many it takes to crew it.

Many year ago I was anchored in a remote, deserted, island and Kokoma 2 arrived.
As my yacht at the time was only 25 feet the contrast between these two vessels was rather comical.
My wife couldn’t resist a friendly dig so made a big sign saying "Kokomo 3" and hung it from the guard rails of our small yacht.

We were not sure how they would take it

Fortunately they saw the joke and all the guests took lots of photos of our little yacht.
