My 1st. Sailboat

In an effort to not waste my sailing lessons while searching for a catamaran in my price range, I went out and bought my brother in law's 1979 Catalina 27' sailboat this afternoon for 5,000 canuck bucks. I think it's a good deal because it is in the water and not taking on water and he say's I can easily get my money back once I get a cat in the water. So, I'm one step closer to where I want to be.

Tried to upload a picture but it didn't take....

Re: My 1st. Sailboat

Makes sense to me to get basically a throw away boat to learn on. Not saying anything wrong with a Cal-27, just that between lessons etc a $5k boat is a reasonable way to go.

BTW - one doesn't know what they want in a boat till they have had a wrong boat or 2

Congratulations on the Catalina 27. That's a great boat. Not a throwaway. You'll learn a lot about boat maintenance and sailing. Easy care, easy to get underway and easy to sail singlehanded.

If you ever do sell it you'll kick yourself for not keeping it.

kind regards,

Re: My 1st. Sailboat

Thanks SkiprJohn. Even though I'm hell bent on a catamaran you never know, I might end up liking the mono hull and upgrading to a bigger more sea worthy one. I'm not sure this one would handle the beating it would take out in the open ocean. But it's definitely good for learning on the lake.
