I know the Sea Shepherds have a following of concerned folks. I do not believe for a minute that the fishermen/whalers on those boats are the guys that make big money off the illegal whale fishery. I think they're more like minimum wage workers everywhere, not shibboleths.

Somebody who rams fishing boats is very pirate-like, in my estimation; and i think minimizing throwing acid -even if not fatal- is basically promoting intrapersonal violence, of which I believe there is already far too much in western society.

You're right, we have to agree to disagree.

Back to the flag programming.

I like the two hemisphere flag with the two polar star constellations shown, minus the tango flag, but it would be a bear to make.

ahem.....what about tattoo's..seems like a fair amount of sailors sport these embellishments to their bodies....origin from a variety of sources....I myself...and my wife....have a selection of tattoo's..placement of which is open to discussion.
Some are " piratry" in origin....enuff said....

are we to be banned ??? are we to be cursed ???? are we to be accepted as the "norm"???

we want to know....are we cursed, subject to infamy, ridicule, laughter....etc....

give me hope here.....puh-lease !!!!

Herein lies the problem - plenty of bad people break good laws and some good people break bad laws.

People aren't always equal and laws aren't always good.

Hence nine pages of this thread trying to distinguish the differences.

Are Pirates good? Mostly not I guess...
Is Sea Shepard good? I dunno...

The meaning of symbols change over time and the skull and crossbones pirate flag is a classic example of this. I don’t think that this symbol has been used by anyone actually engaged in piracy for almost 300 years, but it has been widely used by fun loving boaters with a rebellious spirit, especially those in a partying mood. Since this is widely known, I think that anyone suggesting that flying the Jolly Roger is offensive to them must be trying VERY hard to find something, anything, to be offended by.
