Re: Needed : Suggestions for a first, 1-month adventure

Tarka is for sale in Panama at $10k. Sail it back to the US East coast and sell it. Be an interesting adventure after the hurricane season and something to dine out on for a while afterwards.

If that's a bit tame, charter this and ask to go to Svalbard next summer. Too much? go rock climbing in Sweden on it.

Life is too short, go now.

Consider Jamaica! My good friend, Carolyn Barrett at Barrett Adventures would help you find a solid charter and Jamaica is plenty big enough with enough ports of call to entertain three young men for a month.

Re: Needed : Suggestions for a first, 1-month adventure

I think this is a wonderful plan, but plan on spending (losing) at least 10k and it taking a year to resell your boat. If I were doing this (and I kind of am) I would buy a boat in FL that is Bahamas-worthy, a BoatUS gold towing insurance plan, and have fun in the Bahamas for as long as you can stand each other.

FWIW I bought a 36' Pearson 365 (separate shower) for 15k, should have spent more and gotten a better one. Have cruised FL for about a month in total over the past two years and am going to the Bahamas for a month this summer. Keep it on the hard for about $300/mo du ring non-sailing time. Wish I'd done this when I was younger and more flexible and fit physically, but I had kids and a reluctant wife. Both of those problems are dealt with.

Go for it!

Fred
